Venturi Flowmeter
The classic venturi flowmeter is also called classical venturi, and it is customary to call standard venturi. The flowmeter consists of a pipe with a narrowing throat that expands back to it’s original diameter on the other side of the choke point. The venturi meter calculates velocity by measuring the pressure head at both points before and after the narrowed throat.
It is used to measure the flow of a single-phase stable fluid in a closed pipeline, and is often used to measure the flow of fluids such as air, natural gas, coal gas, and water.
Key Benefits
- Less head loss than an orifice or nozzle meter, due to the streamlined design
- Can be installed vertically, horizontally or inclinded.
- Less susceptibility to damage
- Lower sensitivity to installation effects than orifice plates
- The classic venturi tube is simple, durable and stable in performance
- Classic venturi pressure loss is small, saving the energy needed for fluid delivery.
- No real-flow calibration is required
Product Description
The Classical Venturi flow meter design provides longer lasting accuracy and lower permanent pressure loss than orifice meters, reducing maintenance and operating costs. The Classical Venturi meter design is suitable for flow rate measurement of clean liquids, gases, and steam, particularly if low pressure loss is desired. Classical Venturi flow meter design provides longer lasting accuracy and lower permanent pressure loss than orifice type meters, reducing maintenance and operating costs.
The Classical Venturi flow meter restricts the flow at its throat, increasing the velocity of the fluid, and measures the pressure difference of the unrestricted flow and restricted flow. The meter’s throat can be designed to meet the flow measurement application optimizing the meter’s accuracy and permanent pressure loss.
Key feature:
- In the standard throttling device, the upstream and downstream straight pipe sections required by it are short
- The lasting pressure loss is small, the performance is stable, and the maintenance is convenient
- Coefficient of discharge is high
- Low pressure drop (around 10% of Δp)
- Available in many materials and end arrangements
Application Range
This meter is suitable for flow rate measurement of aggressive and non-aggressive liquids, gasses, and steam especially if low pressure loss is desired.
- Ideal for clear gas, liquid or steam applications
- Oil production and refining
- Water Treatment and distribution
- Chemical and Petrochemical industry
- Liquids and Gas Process
- Steam and Water, Hydrocarbon
- More suitable for gas flows with entrained liquid
